Our Story

Our Story

Two women, one kitchen table, ten years on.

How a hard season, a mother and daughter, and one small moonstone necklace became Moon Vibe.

A word from our founder

People ask me why our jewellery costs what it does, and why we won't just make more of it, faster. The honest answer is a long one, and it starts at a kitchen table in Tasmania, on one of the hardest weeks of my life.

Ten years ago I was coming out of a difficult season. I won't lay it all out here, but if you've ever had a stretch where you didn't quite feel like yourself, you'll understand. My daughter moved back home for a while to help me through it, and one grey afternoon, mostly to keep our hands busy, we started making a necklace.

We chose moonstone. Not for any grand reason at first, just that we both loved the way the light seemed to move inside it. But there's a long history to that stone. For centuries women have worn it for calm, for balance, for feeling steady when life is not. Sitting there together, that felt like exactly what we were both reaching for.

We made that first necklace to feel a little more like ourselves. It turned out thousands of other women were reaching for the same thing.

Every stone is still set by hand. I've never found a shortcut worth taking.

I wore mine everywhere, and people kept asking about it. So we made a few more for friends. Then their friends. For a while it was just the two of us at that table, packing little parcels at night. Then the orders grew past what two pairs of hands could manage, and we very nearly gave the whole thing up, because I refused to do the obvious thing: send it all offshore to be stamped out by the thousand.

I couldn't do it. The whole point was that each piece meant something. So instead we grew slowly, kept it handmade, and trained a tiny team who care as much as we do. That's the real reason a Moon Vibe piece is what it is. I choose the stones myself, and I won't send out one I wouldn't wear.

What we stand for

Three things we won't compromise on

Calm & balance

Moonstone has been worn for centuries for steadiness and quiet. We make pieces you reach for on the low days, and the ordinary ones too.

Made by hand

Small batches, set by hand at the bench. Slow, fiddly work, and we wouldn't have it any other way. The care goes into the stone.

Chosen, never mass-made

Fiona chooses every stone herself. If she wouldn't wear it every single day, it doesn't leave the studio.

Raw moonstones, silver and hand tools on the workbench
Raw moonstones, a little silver, and a handful of old tools.

It doesn't take much to make something that lasts. Just time, real stones, and hands that care. We start each piece with a sketch and a stone chosen for the way it catches the light, and we finish it the same slow way we finished the very first one.

The letters we get now are the reason I still make each one with the same care. Women writing to say a piece helped them feel grounded again through their own hard season. I read every one, and I think of that grey afternoon at the table, and my daughter beside me. If you wear a Moon Vibe piece, it started here, in the quiet, with the two of us. Thank you for being part of it.
